Through neutron diffuse scattering and Monte Carlo simulations the authors conclude that HoAgGe undergoes a single 3D XY phase transition into a time-reversal-symmetry-broken ground state, preceded by a partially ordered regime with fluctuating magnetic charges and accompanied by a nonlinear magnetic susceptibility that distinguishes the two TRS partners.

The quasi-2D model of the distorted kagome lattice in HoAgGe is assumed to be sufficiently faithful that its Monte Carlo scaling analysis correctly identifies the universality class and the long crossover tail of the real three-dimensional material.
