Coalescence of minijet partons with the partons from the quark-gluon plasma formed in relativistic heavy ion collisions is suggested as the mechanism for production of hadrons with intermediate transverse momentum. The resulting enhanced antiproton and pion yields at intermediate transverse momentum gives a plausible explanation for the observed large antiproton to pion ratio. With further increasing momentum, the ratio is predicted to decrease and approach the small value given by independent fragmentations of minijet partons after their energy loss in the quark-gluon plasma.

  1. Bayesian Inference of Heavy-Quark Dissipation and Jet Transport Parameters from D-Meson observables in heavy-ion collisions at the LHC energies

    nucl-th 2025-12 unverdicted novelty 7.0 of 10

First simultaneous Bayesian extraction of 2πT D_s and q-hat/T^3 from D-meson R_AA and v2 at 5.02 TeV, yielding a non-monotonic temperature dependence in their ratio that deviates from the expected value of 2.

  2. Heavy quark coalescence probability in the presence of a potential

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Including a phenomenological heavy-light quark potential in the coalescence model enhances the heavy-quark coalescence probability to near unity at low momentum without ad hoc normalization.

  3. Melting of $c \bar c$ and $b \bar b$ pairs in the pre-equilibrium stage of proton-nucleus collisions at the Large Hadron Collider

    hep-ph 2024-12 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Color decorrelation in the evolving glasma melts roughly half of initially singlet charm and bottom quark pairs within about 0.4 to 0.5 fm/c after their formation in proton-nucleus collisions at the LHC.

  4. Transverse and longitudinal spin alignment from color fields in heavy ion collisions

    nucl-th 2024-11 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Spin alignment of phi mesons along the beam direction is predicted to exceed 1/3 for glasma fields and to show a sign-changing rapidity pattern for isotropic QGP color fields, offering a discriminating observable.

  5. How AMPT generates large elliptic flow with small cross sections

    nucl-th 2019-06 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

AMPT generates high elliptic flow with few-millibarn cross sections due to specific features in initial conditions, interactions, and partonic dynamics, identified via comparisons with the MPC model.

  6. Hybrid Hadronization -- A Study of In-Medium Hadronization of Jets

    hep-ph 2025-01 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

Hybrid Hadronization converts a substantial part of jet fragmentation in a QGP brick into shower-thermal recombination, which grows with medium size, carries collective flow, and boosts baryon/meson ratios.

  7. QGP@50: More than Four Decades of Jet Quenching

    hep-ph 2025-08 conditional novelty 2.0 of 10

A historical and technical review of jet quenching in heavy-ion collisions, covering four decades of theory, the RHIC discovery, and modern Bayesian extractions of the jet transport parameter qhat.
