We report initial results from a large Gemini program to observe z>~5.7 quasars with GNIRS near-IR spectroscopy. Our sample includes 50 quasars with simultaneous ~0.85-2.5 micron spectra covering the rest-frame ultraviolet and major broad emission lines from Ly-alpha to MgII. We present spectral measurements for these quasars and compare to their lower-redshift counterparts at z=1.5-2.3. We find that when quasar luminosity is matched, there are no significant differences between the rest-UV spectra of z>~5.7 quasars and the low-z comparison sample. High-z quasars have similar continuum and emission line properties and occupy the same region in the black hole mass and luminosity space as the comparison sample, accreting at an average Eddington ratio of ~0.3. There is no evidence for super-Eddington accretion or hypermassive (>10^10 Msun) black holes within our sample. We find a mild excess of quasars with weak CIV lines relative to the control sample. Our results, corroborating earlier studies but with better statistics, demonstrate that these high-z quasars are already mature systems of accreting supermassive black holes operating with the same physical mechanisms as those at lower redshifts.

The most extreme high-z radio quasars in the eRASS:1 X-ray survey
The team confirmed 39 new high-redshift radio quasars and found that the number of X-ray-selected blazars at z>4 grows with redshift faster than a constant X-ray/radio ratio model, in broad agreement with the IC/CMB model.

Outflows in super-Eddington quasars drive clumpy circumgalactic medium and extended H$\alpha$ nebulae at $z \gtrsim 6$
In z≈6 quasar simulations, super-Eddington black-hole growth clears escape channels, ejects cold clumps that raise neutral-hydrogen covering, and powers extended Hα nebulae that shrink when the quasar is obscured.

A Census of the 200 Most Massive Galaxies Spectroscopically Observed with JWST at zspec $\sim$3-15
JWST prism spectroscopy of 200 massive galaxies at z~3-15 shows normal star-forming galaxies dominate at z>6 while dusty systems and quiescent galaxies increase at lower redshift, with evidence for multiple quenching ...

Estimating the spins of supermassive black holes in distant ultraluminous quasars
Using radiative-efficiency scaling relations, the authors derive mostly a>0.9 spins for 6<z<7.5 ultraluminous quasars and interpret spin-mass-redshift correlations as evidence of high-rate disk accretion.
