We establish that unitarity of scattering amplitudes imposes universal entropy bounds. The maximal entropy of a self-sustained quantum field object of radius R is equal to its surface area and at the same time to the inverse running coupling evaluated at the scale R. The saturation of these entropy bounds is in one-to-one correspondence with the non-perturbative saturation of unitarity by 2-to-N particle scattering amplitudes at the point of optimal truncation. These bounds are more stringent than Bekenstein's bound and in a consistent theory all three get saturated simultaneously. This is true for all known entropy-saturating objects such as solitons, instantons, baryons, oscillons, black holes or simply lumps of classical fields. We refer to these collectively as "saturons" and show that in renormalizable theories they behave in all other respects like black holes. Finally, it is argued that the confinement in SU(N) gauge theory can be understood as a direct consequence of the entropy bounds and unitarity.

  1. Black Hole Memory Burden and its Signatures in Gravitational Waves from Mergers

    gr-qc 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Swift memory burden shifts black-hole quasinormal-mode frequencies by an amount set by the memory-load parameter μ and critical exponent p, with μ able to exceed the progenitor's information content.

  2. Coherent States in Gauge Theories: Topological Defects and Other Classical Configurations

    hep-th 2024-11 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Classical configurations in gauge theories, including the Nielsen-Olesen string, are constructed as BRST-invariant coherent states whose topological charge is an infinite occupation number of zero-momentum modes.

  3. Does decoherence violate decoupling?

    hep-th 2024-11 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Tracing out a heavy field can appear to decohere a light field, but the apparent decoherence is an artifact of the chosen bipartition; the energy-based EFT projection preserves purity.

  4. Light scalars in light of UV/IR mixing: classicalization via synergy between Vainshtein and chameleon screenings

    hep-ph 2025-11 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

Classicalizing k-essence scalars need m << Λ* and, when potentials or fermion couplings are present, a chameleon-like screening layer to keep Vainshtein screening and classicalon stability intact.

  5. Particle production in the toy world: multiplicity distribution and entropy

    hep-ph 2024-12 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

In the Unitary Toy Model, final-state dipole multiplicity is computed via AGK cutting rules; its entropy matches the BFKL result S_E = ln(xG), while the UTM initial-state distribution differs.
