abstract
New Early Dark Energy (NEDE) is a component of vacuum energy at the electron volt scale, which decays in a first-order phase transition shortly before recombination [arXiv:1910.10739]. The NEDE component has the potential to resolve the tension between recent local measurements of the expansion rate of the Universe using supernovae (SN) data and the expansion rate inferred from the early Universe through measurements of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) when assuming $\Lambda$CDM. We discuss in depth the two-scalar field model of the NEDE phase transition including the process of bubble percolation, collision, and coalescence. We also estimate the gravitational wave signal produced during the collision phase and argue that it can be searched for using pulsar timing arrays. In a second step, we construct an effective cosmological model, which describes the phase transition as an instantaneous process, and derive the covariant equations that match perturbations across the transition surface. Fitting the cosmological model to CMB, baryonic acoustic oscillations and SN data, we report $H_0 = 69.6^{+1.0}_{-1.3} \, \textrm{km}\, \textrm{s}^{-1}\, \textrm{Mpc}^{-1}$ $(68 \%$ C.L.) without the local measurement of the Hubble parameter, bringing the tension down to $2.5\, \sigma$. Including the local input, we find $H_0 = 71.4 \pm 1.0 \, \textrm{km}\, \textrm{s}^{-1}\, \textrm{Mpc}^{-1}$ $(68 \%$ C.L.) and strong evidence for a non-vanishing NEDE component with a $\simeq 4\, \sigma$ significance.

Boiling After the Dust Settles: Constraining First-Order Phase Transitions During Dark Energy Domination
CMB anisotropies from stochastic bubble nucleation constrain late-time phase transitions to release less than ~1% of dark energy when β/H⋆≲25, much tighter than Hubble-budget limits.

Early- and late-time constraints on Wald-Gauss-Bonnet topological dark energy and implications for the $H_0$ and $S_8$ tensions
A joint CMB, BAO, and supernova fit mildly prefers a non-zero Wald-Gauss-Bonnet dark-energy term (~3σ with SH0ES included), raising H0 from 68.5 to 69.8 km/s/Mpc and easing the Hubble tension by ~0.9σ at the cost of a...

The $H_0$ world cup. II. A comprehensive competition between proposed Hubble tension solutions
Against a common 2025-26 dataset (Planck PR4, ACT DR6, SPT-3G, DESI DR2, Pantheon+), early dark energy and early modified gravity models win the H0 competition (~3σ residual tension), while radiation and late-time sol...

BAO miscalibration cannot rescue late-time solutions to the Hubble tension
Even after rescaling BAO data to prefer H0≈73 km/s/Mpc, none of six tested late-time dark-energy models can resolve the Hubble tension once unanchored SNeIa and CMB geometry are included.

Background-level reconstruction of scalar-field potentials from dark-energy histories and comparison with analytic potential families
A background reconstruction maps prescribed ρ_de(z) histories to V(φ) and ranks analytic potentials by Bayesian evidence, with exponential preferred for CPL and shifted-tanh for sign-switching targets.

The $H_0$ World Cup. I. Summary of the baseline group stage results
In a systematic head-to-head analysis, early dark energy and early modified gravity models reduce the Hubble tension to about 3σ and are favored over ΛCDM, while radiation and late-time alternatives are not.

Universal lower bound on the axion decay constant from free streaming effects
Abundance-boosted axion dark matter generically produces warm nonzero-momentum modes, so Lyman-alpha free-streaming and isocurvature bounds exclude fa below about 10^14-10^15 GeV (10^-18 eV/ma) for most ultralight axi...

Hubble tension: a short review of theoretical explanations
A comprehensive review finds no theoretical Hubble-tension solution yet passes all consistency tests; new early-dark-energy chains reach high H0 only when the SH0ES calibration is added.

Dark energy era with a resolution of Hubble tension in generalized entropic cosmology
A generalized-entropy dark energy model with one fitted extra parameter returns H0 near 73 km/s/Mpc on some datasets, but the reported model-comparison statistics do not favor it over LambdaCDM.

Solving an Interacting Quintessence Model with a Sound Horizon Initial Condition and its Observational Constraints
An interacting quintessence model with initial conditions set by the CMB sound horizon angle increases H0 with coupling strength, but observational constraints show it does not resolve the H0 or S8 tensions.

The Hubble tension: A decade review
Pure early or late fixes to the Hubble tension are tightly constrained; remaining options are combined early-late interacting dark energy or new physics at the local-to-homogeneous transition.

Hubble Tension and the G-step Model: Re-examination of Recent Constraints on Modified Local Physics
The paper argues that the G-step model remains a viable solution to the Hubble tension by widening error bars, adopting a weaker luminosity-gravity scaling, and reinterpreting Earth history and distance-ladder data.
