The nonsingular Hermitian surface of degree $\sqrt{q} +1$ is characterized by its number of $\Bbb{F}_q$-points among the irreducible surfaces over $\Bbb{F}_q$ of degree $\sqrt{q} +1$ in the projective 3-space.
