A global analysis of the experimental data on azimuthal asymmetries in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS), from the HERMES and COMPASS Collaborations, and in e+e- --> h1 h2 X processes, from the BELLE Collaboration, is performed. It results in the extraction of the Collins fragmentation function and, for the first time, of the transversity distribution function for u and d quarks. These turn out to have opposite signs and to be sizably smaller than their positivity bounds. Predictions for the azimuthal asymmetry A_{UT}^{sin(phi_h + phi_S)}, as will soon be measured at JLab and COMPASS operating on a transversely polarized proton target, are then presented.

  2. Transverse Charge Distribution as a Probe of Nucleon Transversity

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A charge-flow measurement built only from track angles and charge signs contains a leading-twist chiral-odd dipole that matches the charge-weighted Collins moment, giving enhanced transversity-sensitive asymmetries.

    hep-ph 2025-01 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

In the pion mean-field picture at large Nc, the nucleon tensor charge and anomalous tensor magnetic moment are valence dominated, while the tensor quadrupole moment is sea dominated and strongly enhanced near the chir...

In the chiral quark-soliton model with 1/N_c corrections, the isoscalar tensor charge is 0.81, the isovector anomalous tensor magnetic moment is 1.97, and the isoscalar tensor quadrupole moment is 5.98, completing the...

  7. Collins asymmetries for pion-in-jet production in polarized $\ell p$ collisions at the EIC

    hep-ph 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 4.0 of 10

Collins asymmetries for pion-in-jet production in polarized lepton-proton collisions provide clearer access to transversity distributions at the EIC and test the universality of the Collins function.
