TASI 2003 Lectures on Anomalies
read the original abstract
These lecture notes review the structure of anomalies and present some of their applications in field theory, string theory and M theory. They expand on material presented at the TASI 2003 summer school and the 2005 International Spring School on String Theory in Hangzhou, China.

On Quantum Aspects of 1-Form Symmetries II: Bordism, Invertible Phases, and Anomalies
Bordism computation for K(Z,3) identifies a new mixed perturbative anomaly in 5D and a new Z2 discrete anomaly in 7D for U(1) 1-form symmetries.

Characterizing gapped phases by smeared boundary conformal field theories: Duality in unusual ordering with spontaneously broken generalized symmetries
Gapped phases dual to massless RG flows exhibit unusual structures outside standard boundary CFT modules and typically break non-group-like symmetries, characterized via smeared boundary CFTs with an example in the tr...

Generalized Families of QFTs
Generalized family anomalies for broken higher-group and non-invertible symmetries constrain RG flows and IR phases of QFT families, with explicit application to deformed 4d QCD.

A Quantum Gravitational Mechanism for Isotropization of de Sitter Cosmologies
The Lorentzian CSK functional acts as a chiral sphaleron that dynamically isotropizes closed de Sitter cosmologies through Gaussian suppression of anisotropic perturbations.

Characterizing gapped phases by smeared boundary conformal field theories: Duality in unusual ordering with spontaneously broken generalized symmetries
Gapped phases dual to massless RG flows in 2D CFTs exhibit unusual ordering via spontaneous breaking of non-group-like symmetries and are characterized using smeared boundary CFTs applied to smeared Ishibashi states.

Revisiting the Axial Anomaly and Chiral Magnetic Effect in Dense Matter, with Applications to Axion Dark Matter
Axial anomaly form is unchanged in dense matter via Ward identity cancellation, yielding a Fermi-velocity-suppressed persistent chiral magnetic current set by axial chemical potential.

The Polymorphic Chiral Anomaly
Derives a generic chiral anomaly formula incorporating multiple Feynman diagrams, from which abelian, singlet, consistent, and covariant forms follow, with topological discussion and FeynCalc code.

Characterizing gapped phases by smeared boundary conformal field theories: Duality in unusual ordering with spontaneously broken generalized symmetries
Framework using smeared boundary CFTs classifies gapped phases dual to massless RG flows, showing they often spontaneously break non-group-like symmetries via unusual module structures outside standard boundary critic...
