abstract

We describe a new method for constraining Laplacian spectra of hyperbolic surfaces and 2-orbifolds. The main ingredient is consistency of the spectral decomposition of integrals of products of four automorphic forms. Using a combination of representation theory of $\mathrm{PSL}_2(\mathbb{R})$ and semi-definite programming, the method yields rigorous upper bounds on the Laplacian spectral gap. In several examples, the bound is nearly sharp. For instance, our bound on all genus-2 surfaces is $\lambda_1\leq 3.8388976481$, while the Bolza surface has $\lambda_1\approx 3.838887258$. The bounds also allow us to determine the set of spectral gaps attained by all hyperbolic 2-orbifolds. Our methods can be generalized to higher-dimensional hyperbolic manifolds and to yield stronger bounds in the two-dimensional case. The ideas were closely inspired by modern conformal bootstrap.

  1. Bootstrapping the 3d Ising Stress Tensor

    hep-th 2024-11 conditional novelty 8.0 of 10

The mixed σ, ε, T bootstrap gives Δσ = 0.518148806(24), Δε = 1.41262528(29), and new OPE coefficients for the critical 3d Ising CFT.

  2. Redundancy Channels in the Conformal Bootstrap

    hep-th 2025-07 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Redundant operators motivate spectral gaps that block accidental symmetry enhancement, yielding the first bootstrap island for the 3D cubic CFT that excludes the O(3) model.

  3. Squarefree numbers in short intervals: explicit and formalized

    math.NT 2026-08 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

For intervals of length H = X^{1/5 - 2/90935 + ε}, the number of squarefree integers differs from (6/π²)H by at most an explicit constant times H X^{-ε/10^{25}}.

  4. Moduli Bounds from Spin-2 Sum Rules

    hep-th 2026-08 accept novelty 6.0 of 10

The paper proves, from massive spin-2 scattering sum rules, that the lightest KK graviton must couple to a scalar with (m_sc/m_1)^2 ≤ 4/3, and every KK graviton m_n to a scalar with (m_sc/m_n)^2 < 36/25.

  5. A non-perturbative construction of the de Sitter late-time boundary

    hep-th 2024-11 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

The paper derives an inversion formula that defines de Sitter boundary operators as integrals of bulk fields against the bulk-to-boundary propagator, reproducing known two-point functions and perturbation theory.

  6. Exactly solvable conformal field theories

    hep-th 2024-11 conditional novelty 3.0 of 10

A lecture-note review unifying the exactly solvable 2d CFTs without extended chiral symmetry under the bootstrap framework, with a conjectural roadmap for solving the loop CFTs.
