abstract
Towards the end of the brane inflationary epoch in the brane world, cosmic strings (but not texture, domain walls or monopoles) are copiously produced during brane collision. These cosmic strings are D$p$-branes with $(p-1)$ dimensions compactified. We elaborate on this prediction of the superstring theory description of the brane world. Using the data on the temperature anisotropy in the cosmic microwave background, we estimate the cosmic string tension $\mu$ to be around $G \mu \simeq 10^{-7}$. This in turn implies that the anisotropy in the cosmic microwave background comes mostly from inflation, but with a component (of order 10%) from cosmic strings. This cosmic string effect should also be observable in gravitational wave detectors and maybe even pulsar timing measurements. Directional Search for Persistent Gravitational Waves: Results from the First Part of LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA's Fourth Observing Run
An 8.3-year LIGO–Virgo–KAGRA search for persistent, direction-dependent gravitational waves finds no signal and yields the most restrictive upper limits to date on anisotropic backgrounds and targeted sources.

Stochastic Gravitational Wave Background from Chiral Superconducting Cosmic Strings
Superconducting cosmic string loops emit vector radiation whose strength is fitted in this paper; including this channel suppresses the predicted gravitational wave background for strong coupling and can make the spec...

Fire at the Tip of the Throat: Hagedorn Phase after brane-antibrane inflation?
In perturbatively moduli-stabilized brane-antibrane inflation, a modest fraction of annihilation energy into visible open strings can trigger a Hagedorn phase that suppresses ΔN_eff when the SM throat string scale is ...

Gravitational waves from cosmic strings with friction: analytical approximations and parameter space
Analytical approximations for the ultra-high-frequency GW peak sourced by friction-era cosmic string loops, with expanded observable parameter space.

Upper Limits on the Isotropic Gravitational-Wave Background from the first part of LIGO, Virgo, and KAGRA's fourth Observing Run
No gravitational-wave background is detected in O1-O4a data; the new CBC-spectrum limit Ω_GW(25 Hz) = 2.0×10^-9 (95%) is 1.7x tighter and remains roughly 2-3x above the GWTC-4-predicted astrophysical background of 0.9×10^-9.

Remarks on brane-antibrane inflation
The paper reviews how a perfect-square structure in the scalar potential can stabilize the volume modulus and evade the eta problem in brane-antibrane inflation.
