The elliptic genus of K3 is an index for the 1/4-BPS states of its sigma model. At the torus orbifold point there is an accidental degeneracy of such states. We blow up the orbifold fixed points using conformal perturbation theory, and find that this fully lifts the accidental degeneracy of the 1/4-BPS states with h=1. At a generic point near the Kummer surface the elliptic genus thus measures not just their index, but counts the actual number of these BPS states. We comment on the implication of this for symmetry surfing and Mathieu moonshine.

  1. Symmetric Product Orbifold Universality and the Mirage of an Emergent Spacetime

    hep-th 2025-02 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Symmetric product orbifolds have large-N thermal correlators identical to BTZ, undercutting the claim that a type III1 von Neumann algebra implies a sharp emergent horizon.

  2. AdS$_3\times$S$^3$ magnons in the symmetric orbifold

    hep-th 2024-12 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

The AdS3 × S3 magnons are identified with 'long' collective eigenstates of the perturbed symmetric orbifold, matching the BMN dispersion relation from the CFT side.

  3. AdS$_3$ solutions in Massive IIA with small $\mathcal{N}=(4,0)$ supersymmetry

    hep-th 2019-08 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Two new classes of AdS3 x S2 solutions in massive IIA with small N=(4,0) supersymmetry are derived, along with their T-dual IIB counterparts.

  4. SU(2) channels the cancellation of K3 BPS states

    hep-th 2019-08 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A geometric SU(2) action is proposed as the symmetry that channels the cancellation of excess BPS states in Z2-orbifold K3 superconformal field theories, with explicit verification at levels one and two.
