A generic synchrotron external shock model is the widely preferred paradigm used to interpret the broad-band afterglow data of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), including predicted observable signatures from a reverse shock which have been confirmed by observations. Investigations of the nature of the reverse shock emission can provide valuable insights into the intrinsic properties of the GRB ejecta. Here we briefly review the standard and the extended models of the reverse shock emission, discussing the connection between the theory and observations, including the implications of the latest observational advances.

  1. EuraGovExam: A Multilingual Multimodal Benchmark from Real-World Civil Service Exams

    cs.CV 2026-03 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

EuraGovExam is a real-exam, image-only multilingual multimodal benchmark on which state-of-the-art VLMs reach only ~86% accuracy.

  2. Connecting afterglow light curves to the GRB central engine

    astro-ph.HE 2025-05 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

From simulated afterglows, the position of the jet break (or maximum for off-axis events) alone gives the isotropic kinetic energy of a short GRB to tens of percent, via fitted power-law relations.

  3. Colour evolution in the radio afterglow of GRB 241025A

    astro-ph.HE 2026-07 unverdicted novelty 4.0 of 10

Multi-band data for GRB 241025A require an ad-hoc factor-500 increase in shocked-material optical depth to match the observed radio spectral evolution within a structured-jet forward-shock model.

  4. Earliest simultaneous multi-color optical observations of GRB 230328B: from 41 seconds to the host-galaxy identification

    astro-ph.HE 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 4.0 of 10

New early multi-wavelength data on GRB 230328B shows afterglow with early bump and late achromatic rebrightening at ~4000 s, modeled via MCMC as forward shock plus late energy injection in a dusty S0 host with AV~0.8 ...
