Our understanding of strong gravity near supermassive compact objects has recently improved thanks to the measurements made by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT). We use here the M87* shadow size to infer constraints on the physical charges of a large variety of nonrotating or rotating black holes. For example, we show that the quality of the measurements is already sufficient to rule out that M87* is a highly charged dilaton black hole. Similarly, when considering black holes with two physical and independent charges, we are able to exclude considerable regions of the space of parameters for the doubly-charged dilaton and the Sen black holes.

  1. Carr criterion and mass gaps in non-singular primordial black hole formation

    gr-qc 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 7.0

    Non-singular gravity with regulator ℓ induces a PBH mass gap ~c²ℓ/G and a stronger Carr criterion δ_H > 2GM_gap/R_H - 1 when R_H ~ ℓ.

  2. Scalarization and descalarization in hyperbolic encounters of black holes

    gr-qc 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 6.0

Numerical relativity in the decoupling limit reveals dynamical scalarization and spin-induced (de)scalarization during hyperbolic black hole encounters for both signs of the coupling.

  3. Relative Magnification Factor of Point Sources on Accretion Disks

    gr-qc 2026-04 unverdicted novelty 6.0

Corotating point sources on accretion disks near black holes distort the relative magnification factor distribution, modulating caustics and encoding accretion flow kinematics via time-delayed images.

  4. Gravity/thermodynamics correspondence via black hole shadows

    gr-qc 2026-04 unverdicted novelty 6.0

Cuspy black hole shadows correspond to swallowtail thermodynamic free energy, with boundary self-intersections marking geometric phase transitions whose critical exponents fall in the mean-field class.

  5. On the Cuspy Structure of Rotating Wormhole Shadows

    gr-qc 2026-02 unverdicted novelty 6.0

Rotating wormhole shadows develop cusps above a universal critical redshift value λ_c, yielding four morphologies: smooth, cuspy, ears touching, and throat drowning.

  6. $\tt BlackHawk$ $\tt v3.0$: Hawking Radiation from Regular Black Holes

    gr-qc 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 5.0

BlackHawk v3.0 adds Hawking temperatures and greybody factors for multiple regular black hole metrics to an existing public code via numerical routines.

  7. Observational Tests of Regular Black Holes with Scalar Hair and their Stability

    gr-qc 2025-10 unverdicted novelty 5.0

Regular black holes with phantom scalar hair are constrained by Solar System and EHT observations, with exact relations linking photon sphere Lyapunov exponent to shadow size and impact parameter.

  8. Shadow of the Scalar Hairy Black Hole with Inverted Higgs Potential

    gr-qc 2025-01 unverdicted novelty 4.0

Hairy black hole shadows and disks grow with horizon scalar value but can mimic Schwarzschild by adjusting horizon radius, with the potential parameter Lambda constrained by supermassive black hole observations.
